After returning to Hong Kong, Dr. Tao has worked in culture, media and publishing for many years, occasionally participating in stage and TV performances. She joined the Hong Kong Repertory Theatre in 2002 and was the first drama and literature researcher of the theatre and the first full-time drama literature researcher in Hong Kong. In 2004, she also served as an assistant to the artistic director of the theatre. From the end of 2007 to the end of 2008, she was appointed to be the editor of the Hong Kong Repertory Theatre.
She used to be the Vice Chairperson of the Board of Directors of Whole Theatre, and a lecturer in the Department of Drama at the Faculty of Education, University of Macau. She is currently an examiner of Arts Criticism of the Hong Kong Drama Awards and the Hong Kong Arts Development Council, columnist for the 《文匯報》「采風版」, critic of the “performing arts edition” of “Macau Daily News” and director of Pop Theatre.
The scripts she wrote in recent years include:《如真如假》, 《蝴蝶與天虹》, 《寢室物語》. 《蝴》is included in the 「中學中國語文戲劇教材系列二之劇本選輯及導賞」(selected scripts and guided appreciation of the secondary school Chinese language drama teaching material series) by the Hong Kong Education Bureau. She has been invited by the Hong Kong Education Bureau several times to give lectures on drama appreciation courses for secondary school teachers. From 2008 to 2012, she served as the host and coordinator for 《劇場會客室》of the online TV station “OurTV”, and has interviewed 100 Hong Kong theatre workers.
She has organized an academic seminar of the Proceedings & Papers of “Re-visit Cao Yu” Symposium for the Hong Kong Repertory Theatre; edited, wrote and coordinated 15 performing arts and drama publications, including: Gems of Theatre Arts—Hong Kong Repertory Theatre Silver Jubilee Commemorative Book,《香港話劇團公司資料冊》, Let’s Talk about Hong Kong Repertory Theatre, Let’s Talk about Theatre Review, HKREP 30—Hong Kong Repertory Theatre 30th Anniversary Commemorative Book, Proceedings & Papers of “Re-visit Cao Yu” Symposium, The Stage Art of “Secret of Resurrection”, Let’s Talk about Playwright and The Stage Art of “Dr. Faustus”; edited the 《品味戲劇–香港話劇團演出導賞手冊選》 published by the International Association of Theatre Critics; edited the 《香港劇壇點將錄》（第五輯） published by the Hong Kong Federation of Drama Societies; edited the 《戲劇大師鍾景輝的戲劇藝術之舞台篇》, 《戲劇大師鍾景輝的戲劇藝術之電視篇》 and《重踏香港業餘話劇社的舊日足迹》（上冊） published by 紅寶文化傳播; and the author of 《香港詞人系列——鄭國江》 published by Chung Hwa Book Company.
